Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) is the city’s summer sale season. The 2026 edition ran from 2 July to 30 August 2026; the 2027 dates haven’t been announced, but expect early July to the end of August again. It’s spread across Dubai’s malls, in the hottest weeks of the year, so the best way to shop it is a car on hourly hire that waits at each mall entrance. Our chauffeur service in Dubai runs that all summer.
Summer is also our quietest season, which works in your favour: short-notice bookings are usually easy, and the morning roads are the lightest of the year.
When is Dubai Summer Surprises 2027?
The organisers hadn’t published DSS 2027 dates when we wrote this (October 2026). The last two editions give a reliable pattern:
| Edition | Dates | Status |
|---|---|---|
| DSS 2025 | 27 June – 31 August 2025 | Past |
| DSS 2026 | 2 July – 30 August 2026 | Past; confirmed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism |
| DSS 2027 | Not announced yet; expect early July to late August | To be confirmed |
| DSS 2028 | Not announced yet; same summer window expected | To be confirmed |
The 2026 dates come from Visit Dubai’s DSS page and the Dubai Calendar’s July 2026 announcement, which describes DSS as a citywide celebration of retail, entertainment and family experiences, with seasonal price reductions, prize draws, and hotel and attraction offers.
DSS 2027 is likely to overlap the school summer break. The Ministry of Education’s 2026–27 calendar ends the school year on 2 July 2027, so the first weeks of DSS will coincide with families flying out, and the last weeks with families flying back.
What happens during DSS
It’s a shopping season more than a single event. The pieces that affect where people go:
- Sales across the malls. In 2026 the price cuts ran in phases, with the deepest reductions on the closing weekend.
- Mall events. DSS 2026 opened with weekend celebrations at City Centre Mirdif and Dubai Hills Mall on 3 and 4 July.
- Prize draws and hotel offers. Raffles at participating malls, plus summer hotel and attraction deals.
- Food offers. In August 2026 an AED 10 dish offer ran at food outlets across the city as part of DSS.
None of this is concentrated in one place. A typical DSS day for our guests is three or four malls, which is where the transport question starts.
Why a car beats the taxi queue in July and August
Dubai in July and August is hot and humid from morning to night. The malls are cold; the gaps between them aren’t. Those gaps are where a summer shopping day goes wrong:
- The walk from the car park. Big malls have huge car parks, and the walk from a far-off level to the entrance can be long, even indoors.
- The taxi rank at 9pm. When the mall empties, the queue for taxis forms in the warm night air, with bags.
- Shopping bags. By the second mall, you’re carrying everything you bought at the first.
- Children and grandparents. Short distances in the heat feel long when you’re carrying a toddler.
A chauffeur on hourly hire solves all four. The car drops you at the entrance, waits in the mall’s car park with the air conditioning running, takes the bags between stops and picks you up at the same door when you call. Our cars come with bottled water and Wi-Fi, which helps on a long day.
A mall-to-mall day with hourly hire
Dubai’s big malls sit in clusters, so we plan routes that avoid crossing the city twice. Two routes we’d suggest:
| Route | Malls | Roads | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| West and central | Mall of the Emirates (Al Barsha), Dubai Hills Mall, The Dubai Mall (Downtown) | Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road | Fashion, department stores, a dinner with a Burj Khalifa view |
| East and Creek | City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Festival City Mall, Deira City Centre | Near the airport and the Creek | Family days, electronics, an easy run back to Deira hotels |
Ibn Battuta Mall, further south on Sheikh Zayed Road, pairs well with Mall of the Emirates for guests staying in the Marina or JBR.
How we’d plan a full day:
- Start at opening time. Morning roads are light in summer, and the first mall is calm.
- Lunch in mall number two. It breaks the day and keeps you out of the midday heat.
- Finish at The Dubai Mall or Festival City. Both are busiest in the evening, and both have restaurants and shows for after the shopping.
- Agree the pickup door at each mall. Big malls have many entrances; the chauffeur waits at the one you name.
Our Downtown Dubai chauffeur service and Al Barsha chauffeur service cover the two biggest mall areas year-round.
What hourly hire costs in summer
Hourly hire has a 3-hour minimum. Our price includes the chauffeur, fuel, Salik tolls and VAT, and we don’t add surge pricing or night surcharges, in summer or any other season. For context, published Dubai rate cards in September 2026 put a business sedan with driver at about AED 90–120 an hour, a half day at AED 500–850 and a full 10-hour day at AED 600–1,300. Our hourly chauffeur rates guide explains how half-day and full-day packages compare.
For a family of five or six with shopping, choose a large SUV over a sedan; the boot space matters by the third mall.
DSS, school holidays and the airport
DSS overlaps the busiest summer airport weeks: the start of the school holidays in early July and the return in late August. If you’re flying in for DSS, those are the days to book your airport pickup early. Mid-July to mid-August is calmer on the roads, and that’s when we’d plan a long shopping day.
Our guide to Dubai’s seasons explains how summer compares with the winter peak, and the Dubai events calendar covers what follows in the autumn.
