Dubai to Fujairah is about 120 km to Fujairah City and 150 km to the Al Aqah beaches, a drive of 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours over the Hajar mountains. The E700 bus costs AED 25, Etihad Rail from Al Yalayis starts at AED 39, and a metered Dubai taxi runs to roughly AED 325–390.
The east coast is where we send people who’ve seen Dubai’s beaches and want clearer water, mountains and old forts in one day. It’s a regular run in our chauffeur service across the UAE. Here’s how the three routes differ, what each way of getting there costs, and a day plan that doesn’t waste hours in the car.
How far is Fujairah from Dubai?
Fujairah is the one emirate entirely on the Gulf of Oman coast, so the drive always crosses the mountains. How far depends on which part of the coast you want.
| From Downtown Dubai to | Road distance | Drive, light traffic | Main roads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fujairah City (Fujairah Fort) | about 122 km | about 1 h 30 min | E44, E611, E102, E84 |
| Khor Fakkan | about 131 km | about 1 h 40 min | E44, E611, S142 |
| Dibba | about 143 km | about 1 h 50 min | E311, E611, E87, E89 |
| Al Aqah and Snoopy Island | about 150 km | about 2 h | E44, E611, S142, E99 |
From Dubai Marina, add about 20 km and 15 minutes. From DXB or Deira, take about 10 km off, since you join Emirates Road sooner.
Which road goes from Dubai to Fujairah?
Three routes cross the Hajar mountains, and the right one depends on where you’re going on the coast.
- To Fujairah City: E611, E102, then E84. Leave Downtown on the E44, turn north on Emirates Road (E611), then take the Sharjah–Kalba Road (E102) east and join the E84, which runs through the mountains into Fujairah City. It’s the fastest way to the fort, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Fujairah corniche.
- To Khor Fakkan and Al Aqah: E611, then the tunnel road (S142). Sharjah’s Khor Fakkan road cuts through the mountains in a series of tunnels and comes out on the coast at Khor Fakkan. From there, the coastal E99 runs north to Al Bidya and the Al Aqah beaches.
- To Masafi and Dibba: E611, E87, then E89. The northern route reaches the E89, the inland road that links Masafi with Dibba and the north of the coast. It passes the roadside Masafi market, a good stop on the way back.
None of these roads has a toll once you’re off Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, and none needs a 4x4. Fuel stations are sparse on the mountain stretches, so fill up before you climb. In our cars, fuel and tolls are part of the price.
How long is the drive from Dubai to Fujairah by time of day?
What we allow from Downtown Dubai to Fujairah City:
| Departure time (weekday) | To Fujairah | Back to Dubai |
|---|---|---|
| 6:00–7:00 am | 1 h 30 min | 1 h 40 min |
| 7:00–10:00 am | 1 h 40 min | 2 h – 2 h 15 min (heavy traffic entering Dubai) |
| 10:00 am – 4:00 pm | 1 h 30 min – 1 h 40 min | 1 h 40 min |
| 4:00–8:00 pm | 2 h – 2 h 15 min (Emirates Road northbound is busy) | 1 h 40 min – 1 h 50 min |
| After 8:00 pm | 1 h 30 min | 1 h 35 min |
Weekends are lighter for commuters but busier near the beach hotels.
How can I get from Dubai to Fujairah?
| Option | Cost, one way | Time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTA bus E700 (Union Square, Deira) | AED 25 on Nol | About 2–2.5 h | Stops in Al Dhaid and Masafi on the way; ends in Fujairah City |
| Etihad Rail (Al Yalayis to Fujairah) | From AED 39 | About 1 h 10 min on the train | From 30 September 2026; one service a day at launch |
| Dubai taxi, metered | About AED 325–390 | 1 h 30 min – 2 h | AED 2.45 per km plus AED 20 for passing through Sharjah |
| Uber or Careem | Upfront app price, varies with demand | 1 h 30 min – 2 h | Fewer cars on the coast for the return |
| Private chauffeur, transfer | Fixed price, fuel and tolls included | 1 h 30 min – 2 h | Hotel to hotel with luggage |
| Private chauffeur, full day | Day rate plus an out-of-Dubai charge | Car stays with you | Fort, mosque and beach in one trip |
The train is new and useful if you live near Al Yalayis in Jumeirah Golf Estates and travel light; our Etihad Rail guide has the station details and luggage rules, and bookings are on etihadrail.ae. You’ll still need a taxi from the station to the beach hotels.
For the taxi, those figures are our meter maths on Dubai Taxi’s published tariff, not a fare you’re quoted. Getting back is the harder part: Dubai taxis don’t work the east coast, so you’ll rely on a local taxi or an app, and a beach hotel on a weekend evening can mean a long wait.
That’s why we suggest keeping a car and driver for a day trip. Published Dubai rate cards (September 2026) put a business sedan with driver at AED 600–1,300 for a full 10-hour day and a large SUV at AED 1,300–2,000, with many operators adding AED 125–200 when the car leaves Dubai. A family of five with snorkel bags and a cool box fits a Mercedes V-Class comfortably.
What is there to see in Fujairah?
- Fujairah Fort: on a hill in old Fujairah, about 3 km from the sea, with the heritage village around it. Fujairah Tourism’s fort page has the visitor details.

- Al Bidya Mosque: a small mosque of mud brick and stone with four domes, which Fujairah Tourism describes as the UAE’s oldest existing mosque. Women cover their hair to go inside.
- Al Aqah beach and Snoopy Island: the east coast’s best-known snorkelling spot, with coral just offshore. Dive centres and beach hotels rent gear and run boat trips.
- Khor Fakkan: Sharjah’s town on the east coast, with a long waterfront and seafood restaurants.
- Masafi market: roadside stalls selling fruit, pottery and carpets on the mountain road home.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a bus from Dubai to Fujairah?
The RTA E700 costs AED 25 one way, paid with a Nol card. It leaves from Union Square Bus Station in Deira, next to Union Metro, and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to Fujairah City, stopping in Al Dhaid and Masafi on the way. Check S’hail for the day’s timetable.
How much does a taxi cost from Dubai to Fujairah?
Roughly AED 325 from Downtown Dubai to Fujairah City and up to AED 390 to the Al Aqah beaches, based on Dubai Taxi’s AED 2.45 per km plus the AED 20 charge for passing through Sharjah. Waiting time is extra. Finding a taxi back from the coast can take a while.
How much does it cost to take a taxi from Fujairah to Dubai?
Fujairah taxis run on their own meter, so ask for an estimate before you set off; the distance is the same 120–150 km as the trip out. Expect longer waits for a car at beach hotels, especially at weekends. A pre-booked car fixes the price and the pickup time.
Is it worth going to Fujairah from Dubai?
Yes, if you want a different UAE from Dubai’s: mountains, clearer water for snorkelling at Snoopy Island, and the old fort and mosques. It works as a long day trip, leaving at 7:30 am and back by 7 pm, or as a one-night beach stay.
Can you take the train from Dubai to Fujairah?
Yes, from 30 September 2026. Etihad Rail runs from Al Yalayis station in Dubai to Fujairah in about 1 hour 10 minutes, with fares from AED 39. There was one service a day at launch, so check the timetable before you plan a day trip around it.
