A Dubai airport taxi starts at AED 20 (AED 25 for a van) and adds AED 2.62 per km, plus Salik tolls and time in slow traffic. From DXB that works out at roughly AED 60 to 65 to Downtown Dubai and AED 105 to 120 to Dubai Marina or the Palm. A private transfer costs more, but it’s a fixed price that includes meet and greet, parking and tolls.

Which one is better depends on who’s travelling, how much luggage you have and what time you land. We run private airport transfers in Dubai, so we’re not neutral, but a taxi is often the right answer and we’ll say when. The taxi fares below are built from RTA and Dubai Taxi’s published tariffs, checked in September 2026.

How is a Dubai airport taxi fare calculated?

RTA’s own formula is: base fare, plus the kilometre charge, plus waiting time, plus any fee for entering Sharjah, Port Rashid or Abu Dhabi’s Darb toll area, plus Salik tolls. For taxis leaving Dubai’s airports, the numbers are:

ComponentAirport taxi (DXB and DWC)Source
Starting fareAED 20 for a normal taxi, AED 25 for a vanRTA taxi fares
DistanceAED 2.62 per kmDubai Taxi airport service
Waiting and slow traffic50 fils per minuteDubai Taxi
Salik tollsAdded for each toll gate crossedRTA
Trips into SharjahExtra AED 20Dubai Taxi

Dubai Taxi also warns that fares can change at peak hours, at event locations and on New Year’s Eve. You can pay by cash, card or Nol card.

Airport taxis cost more than taxis hailed on the street, which start at AED 5 (AED 5.50 at night) and charge AED 2.45 per km. That’s the premium for a guaranteed car at the rank, 24 hours a day. Dubai Airports’ own taxi page quotes AED 25 as the starting fare, which matches the van rate.

Salik gates cost AED 6 per crossing at peak times (6 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday) and AED 4 off-peak, per the Dubai government portal. Our Salik toll gates guide explains where the gates are.

These estimates use the airport tariff (AED 20 plus AED 2.62 per km) with road distances from DXB Terminals 1 and 3, measured in our route checks. They’re metered estimates before Salik and slow-traffic time, rounded up to the nearest AED 5. Add AED 5 for a van.

For a reality check: Atlantis The Palm’s own FAQ says a taxi from Dubai International costs approximately AED 120 and takes 40 to 60 minutes. That sits right on our estimate.

What about Uber, Careem and Bolt at DXB?

All three work at Dubai International. Dubai Airports says to book in the app and follow the signs to the pickup point, which is always in the car park, never at the arrivals kerb:

  • Terminal 3: Uber’s route is Exit 2, across the road, through the tunnel into the car park, then Level 1 or Level 3. Dubai Airports lists an air-conditioned Uber lounge in that pickup area.
  • Terminal 1: Car Park A1, Pickup Areas 2 and 3.
  • Terminal 2: across the road into the car park, then the pickup zone.

App fares are quoted before you book and move with the time of day and demand. Check the app price against the taxi estimate above while you wait at the baggage belt. Our Terminal 3 arrivals guide shows where each pickup is in the terminal.

How much is an airport transfer in Dubai?

Anywhere from about AED 30 for a taxi to Deira to well over AED 1,000 for a Rolls-Royce. The useful comparisons are:

Our honest view, case by case:

  • Solo or a couple, light bags, Deira or Downtown at midday: take the taxi. It’s quick and good value.
  • Family of four or more with checked bags: pre-book a luxury SUV or van. You skip the rank and the car fits the luggage.
  • Landing at 2 a.m. after a long-haul flight with children: pre-book. Nobody wants a taxi queue at that hour.
  • Business traveller heading to a meeting: pre-book a business sedan with a VAT invoice and a known pickup.
  • Arriving at DWC or Sharjah: pre-book. Long distances make the meter expensive, and public transport from both is limited. See our Al Maktoum airport guide.

Costs people forget

  1. Parking, if a friend collects you. Dubai Airports charges AED 40 for up to 2 hours at Terminal 3 and Terminal 1’s Car Park A. There’s no free kerbside pickup.
  2. Salik. A trip to the Marina or Palm usually crosses at least one gate.
  3. The Sharjah fee. Dubai taxis add AED 20 for trips into Sharjah.
  4. Slow traffic. At 50 fils a minute, a long crawl on Sheikh Zayed Road adds up.
  5. Event nights. Fares can change at peak times and major events.

It depends on the time and the product you choose. The metered airport taxi is the baseline: AED 20 plus AED 2.62 per km.
