Atlantis The Palm is about 37 km by road from Dubai International (DXB) and 41 km from Al Maktoum International (DWC): 35 to 60 minutes from either, depending on traffic. The last stretch runs down Palm Jumeirah’s trunk and through the undersea tunnel to the crescent. Atlantis says a taxi from DXB costs approximately AED 120, and suite guests get a complimentary hotel transfer.

Everyone else chooses between the hotel’s own paid transfer, a taxi and a private chauffeur. We handle hotel transportation in Dubai every day, and Atlantis arrivals tend to be luggage-heavy: families, waterpark gear, prams. Below are the real drive times, how the arrival works on the Palm, and what each option costs. For anything else on the island, see our Palm Jumeirah limo service.

How long does it take from the airport to Atlantis?

Road distances on the fastest route, measured in our route checks. The ranges run from a clear road to a normal weekday rush hour.

FromTo Atlantis The PalmTo Atlantis The RoyalTypical drive
DXB Terminal 1 or 3about 36 to 37 kmabout 38 to 39 km35 to 60 min
DXB Terminal 2about 40 kmabout 41 km40 to 65 min
Al Maktoum International (DWC)about 41 kmabout 42 km40 to 60 min
Sharjah Airport (SHJ)about 62 kmabout 63 km55 to 90 min
Zayed International, Abu Dhabi (AUH)about 105 kmabout 107 km1 h 15 min to 1 h 40 min

The hotels’ own estimates line up. Atlantis The Palm’s FAQ says the taxi from Dubai International takes 40 to 60 minutes; Atlantis The Royal’s FAQ gives the same range. From Abu Dhabi, Atlantis quotes about 1 hour 20 minutes to The Palm and 1 hour 30 minutes to The Royal.

A point worth knowing if you have a choice of flights: DWC is barely further from Atlantis than DXB is, because both resorts sit on the “new Dubai” side of the city. Our Al Maktoum airport guide explains what DWC arrivals are like.

The route onto the Palm

From DXB, the drive follows Airport Road and Umm Hurair Road onto Sheikh Zayed Road, then south-west to the Palm Jumeirah exit. From DWC, it comes north on Expo Road and Sheikh Zayed Road to the same exit. Either way, the final section is identical:

  1. Onto the trunk. Palm Jumeirah Road runs down the trunk, past the fronds and the trunk hotels.
  2. Through the tunnel. At the end of the trunk, the road dips into the undersea tunnel that links the trunk to the crescent.
  3. Out onto the crescent. Atlantis The Palm is straight ahead at the apex. Atlantis The Royal is a short drive along the crescent, about 1.6 km by road.

One detail catches day visitors, not hotel guests. Atlantis tells visitors driving to Aquaventure to take the first right at the roundabout after the tunnel, to the waterpark car park. Hotel guests carry on to the main entrance, where Atlantis offers complimentary valet parking for resident guests. With a chauffeur, you don’t need either: we drop you at the lobby with your bags and leave.

If you’re splitting a group between the two resorts, Atlantis The Royal’s FAQ says Mercedes Sprinter shuttles run between both resort lobbies and The Avenues at Atlantis, The Palm, roughly 8 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Palm Jumeirah traffic: when to allow extra time

The Palm has one main road down the trunk and one tunnel to the crescent, and both feed off Sheikh Zayed Road. That makes the island quick when it’s quiet and slow when it isn’t. The times to watch:

  • Weekday rush hours on Sheikh Zayed Road. Salik’s peak toll windows (6 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday) are a good guide.
  • Weekend afternoons and evenings, when day visitors head to Aquaventure, the beach clubs and the restaurants.
  • Big events at Atlantis. New Year’s Eve on the Palm is its own planning exercise; see our New Year’s Eve transport guide.

For departures, build the extra time in at the start. The tunnel is the road link between the crescent and the trunk, so there’s no shortcut once you’re queuing. Our Palm Jumeirah hotels transfer guide has drive times across the island.

Luggage and which car to book

Atlantis trips tend to carry more bags than passengers: swim gear, a pram, souvenirs on the way home. Book on luggage:

Your groupBook
Two people, two large casesBusiness or first-class sedan
Family of four with four or more casesA luxury SUV such as the GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade
Five to seven people, or prams and a child seatA Mercedes V-Class
Two families, or lots of luggageTwo cars, or a car for people and a van for bags

Tell us about child seats when you book. It’s the one thing we can’t solve at the kerb.

If you land well before the 3 p.m. check-in, Atlantis says its front office will store your luggage and give you a temporary ID card for the beach, pools and Aquaventure, from as early as 10 a.m. That’s often better than trying to arrange an early room.

What does an Atlantis airport transfer cost?

OptionCostNotes
Hotel transfer, suite guestsComplimentaryAtlantis The Palm: all Suite guests, to and from DXB. Atlantis The Royal: Suite and Signature Penthouse guests, DXB Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and Dubai’s ports
Hotel transfer, room guestsExtra fee, subject to availabilityAsk the hotel’s reservations team for the current price
Taxi from DXBabout AED 120 to The Palm, AED 120 to 140 to The RoyalThe hotels’ own estimates; metered, plus Salik
Taxi from Abu Dhabi (AUH)about AED 200 to 300 to The Palm, AED 280 to 340 to The RoyalThe hotels’ own estimates
Private chauffeurFixed price by car classIncludes parking, Salik and VAT; see the rate table on our hotel transportation page

The cost logic is simple. A taxi is cheapest for two people with light bags. Once you need an SUV-sized car, or two taxis, the gap narrows fast, and a fixed price also removes the meter from a slow Sheikh Zayed Road. The things that move a private price are the airport (DWC and AUH are further than DXB for most of the city, though not for the Palm), the car class, and extra stops.

Check your booking confirmation before paying for anything. If you’ve booked a suite, the hotel car is free, and we’d tell you to use it.

Arriving early or leaving late

Both Atlantis resorts use a 3 p.m. check-in and a 12 p.m. check-out. Early check-in can be requested when you book, but Atlantis says it’s strictly subject to availability and may cost extra. Atlantis The Royal recommends booking from the night before if you need a guaranteed early check-in.

Two ways we help with awkward timings:

  • Morning arrival: go straight to Atlantis and use the luggage storage, or book the car by the hour (minimum 3 hours) for breakfast in the city and a drive past the sights before you check in.
  • Late flight after a noon check-out: book an hourly car for the afternoon, or schedule the airport pickup for the evening and leave your bags with the hotel.
