Which Dubai hotels are worth a special arrival, and how to plan it
The Dubai hotels where the arrival is part of the stay, from Atlantis The Royal to Bvlgari and Armani, with drive times, car choices and planning steps.

The Dubai hotels worth planning a special arrival for are the ones where the approach is part of the experience: Atlantis The Royal through the Palm’s undersea tunnel, Bvlgari Resort across its bridge to Jumeira Bay, Armani Hotel Dubai at the foot of Burj Khalifa, and newer names such as The Lana and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. Burj Al Arab is closed for restoration until its planned 2027 reopening.
Planning one comes down to matching the car, the timing and the luggage to a hotel whose entrance deserves the effort, and making sure nothing goes wrong at the airport end. We plan these through our hotel transportation service. Here’s our shortlist, and the planning questions worth answering first.
What makes a hotel arrival worth planning?
Most Dubai hotels have a smart porte-cochère. A few give you more than that. We look for four things:
- The approach. A bridge, a tunnel, an island or a skyline view on the way in.
- Room at the door for a large car and a luggage vehicle behind it.
- A reason to be seen, such as an anniversary, a proposal or a client you want to impress.
- Logistics that reward planning. Island hotels and busy Downtown drop-offs punish a badly timed arrival.
The best Dubai hotels for a special arrival
Road distances from DXB Terminal 3 on the fastest route, measured in our route checks. The car suggestions are our own view, not the hotels’.
| Hotel | Where | The approach | From DXB | Car we’d suggest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atlantis The Royal | Palm Jumeirah crescent | Down the trunk and through the undersea tunnel to the crescent | about 38 km | Rolls-Royce Cullinan, or an Escalade for families |
| Bvlgari Resort Dubai | Jumeira Bay island | Over a short bridge to a seahorse-shaped island | about 19 km | Rolls-Royce Ghost or Bentley Flying Spur |
| Armani Hotel Dubai | Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai | Straight to the base of Burj Khalifa | about 15 km | Mercedes-Maybach S-Class |
| One&Only One Za’abeel | Za’abeel, between DIFC and Downtown | A city arrival, minutes from DIFC | about 11 km | Mercedes S-Class or Maybach |
| The Lana, Dorchester Collection | Marasi Drive, Business Bay | On the water at Marasi Bay | about 17 km | Rolls-Royce Ghost |
| Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab | Umm Suqeim 3, Jumeirah Road | Beside Burj Al Arab on the Jumeirah beachfront | about 27 km | Rolls-Royce Phantom |
| One&Only The Palm | West Crescent, Palm Jumeirah | Through the tunnel to a low-rise resort | about 40 km | Bentley or Range Rover |
A few notes behind the table:
- Atlantis The Royal offers complimentary airport pickup for Suite and Signature Penthouse guests from DXB Terminals 1, 2 and 3, according to its FAQ. It also has a helipad beside Atlantis, The Palm. Our Atlantis airport transfer guide covers the drive in detail.
- Bvlgari Resort Dubai describes itself as set on “a seahorse-shaped island in Jumeira Bay.” The bridge is short, so the moment is the island reveal rather than a long drive.
- Armani Hotel Dubai occupies Burj Khalifa from the concourse level to the 39th floor, per Armani Hotels. Downtown traffic is the risk here: avoid arriving in the evening peak if you can.
- Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab opened in 2025 next to Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
What about Burj Al Arab?
It would top most people’s list, but not this year. Jumeirah closed Burj Al Arab in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration, and the reopening has been reported for October 2027. When it reopens, you’ll still need a confirmed stay, restaurant booking or tour to get past the gatehouse. Our Burj Al Arab arrival guide has the details, the hotel’s own transfer prices and the nearby alternatives at Madinat Jumeirah.
How to plan a special arrival
- Check what the hotel already includes. Atlantis The Palm includes DXB transfers for all Suite guests; Atlantis The Royal for Suite and Signature Penthouse guests; Jumeirah One Platinum members get complimentary DXB transfers at Madinat Jumeirah. Don’t pay twice.
- Pick the car for the luggage first, then the look. A Rolls-Royce Ghost boot takes a couple of suitcases, not a family’s worth. For heavy luggage, book two vehicles: the guests in the luxury car, the bags in a van. Burj Al Arab’s own transport list includes a luggage van for exactly this reason.
- Sort the airport end. Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board and tracks the flight. If the gate-to-hall part matters too (elderly parents, small children, a VIP), add Marhaba fast-track; our Marhaba vs private meet and greet guide explains the handover.
- Time it. Avoid the Sheikh Zayed Road peaks (Salik’s peak windows are 6 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday). If photos matter, late afternoon works well. Remember resort check-in is usually mid-afternoon; Atlantis’s is 3 p.m.
- Tell the hotel. Let the front desk know your arrival time and that you’re coming by private car, so porters are ready for the luggage.
- Mark the occasion. For a honeymoon or anniversary, say so when you book the car. For a wedding party, our wedding car service is set up for that.
- Book the car early, especially a Rolls-Royce or Bentley in the busy winter season. Cancellation on those cars is free up to 24 hours before pickup.
Hotel car or private chauffeur?
Some hotels publish their transfer prices, which makes comparison easy. Madinat Jumeirah lists DXB pickups at AED 400 (Audi A6), AED 600 (BMW 7 Series) and AED 700 (Mercedes Viano), fees and VAT included, with 48 hours’ notice. Burj Al Arab’s list, still online during the closure, puts a Rolls-Royce Phantom from DXB at AED 1,500 per trip plus tax.
| Hotel car | Private chauffeur | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Hotel’s list price; sometimes included with suites | Fixed price by car class, including parking, Salik and VAT |
| Choice of car | The hotel’s own fleet | Any class, from S-Class to Rolls-Royce, SUV or van |
| Stops on the way | Usually point to point | Add stops, or keep the car by the hour (3-hour minimum) |
| Several hotels in one trip | Each hotel arranges its own | One booking across the whole stay |
| Flight delays | Hotel’s terms | Flight tracked, 45 to 60 minutes of free waiting |
Our honest rule: if your suite includes the hotel car, take it. If you’re paying either way, compare like for like, and book privately when you want a specific car, a stop on the way, or the same chauffeur for the rest of the day. Our Rolls-Royce chauffeur page lists the Ghost, Phantom and Cullinan.
Splitting your stay between hotels
Plenty of visitors do a few nights on the Palm and a few in Downtown. The hotel change is a short transfer: Atlantis to Downtown Dubai is about 26 km, and Atlantis to Madinat Jumeirah about 12 km. Book it as a transfer with luggage, or as a half-day hire with a lunch stop between check-out and check-in. Our Palm Jumeirah hotels guide has drive times across the island.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to book the airport transfer through the hotel or a private chauffeur?
If your room or suite includes a hotel transfer, use it. If you’re paying, compare the hotel’s price with a private quote for the same class of car. A private chauffeur gives you more choice of vehicle, stops on the way, flight tracking with free waiting, and one booking if you’re moving between hotels.
Which Dubai hotel has the most impressive arrival?
It depends on the effect you want. Atlantis The Royal gives you the Palm and the tunnel, Bvlgari Resort the island bridge, and Armani Hotel Dubai the base of Burj Khalifa. Burj Al Arab’s bridge arrival is the classic, but the hotel is closed for restoration until its planned reopening in October 2027.
Can a Rolls-Royce pick us up from Dubai airport?
Yes. We send Rolls-Royce Ghost, Phantom and Cullinan cars to DXB and DWC with a chauffeur who meets you in the arrivals hall. For luggage, pair the Rolls-Royce with a van. Book as early as you can in the winter season, and note that Rolls-Royce bookings have free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
Is Burj Al Arab open for arrivals?
Not in 2026. Jumeirah closed Burj Al Arab in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration, with the reopening reported for October 2027. Even when it’s open, only guests with a confirmed stay, dining reservation or tour booking can cross the bridge. Madinat Jumeirah and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab are next door.
How far in advance should I book a luxury hotel arrival?
As soon as you know your flight, especially for a Rolls-Royce or Bentley in the winter season. Hotel transfers can need notice too: Madinat Jumeirah asks for 48 hours. We take bookings 24/7, and our cancellation is free up to 6 hours before pickup, or 24 hours for Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
