The Sharjah International Book Fair 2026 runs from Wednesday 4 November to Sunday 15 November at Expo Centre Sharjah, on Al Taawun Street in Al Khan. From Downtown Dubai it’s about 20 km, roughly 25 minutes outside rush hour. On weekday evenings the same trip can take 60–90 minutes, so go in the morning or come back to Dubai before 4 pm.
We cover this route with our chauffeur service in Sharjah, and the book fair adds a twist: plenty of visitors can only go after work, which is exactly when Dubai’s commuters are driving home to Sharjah. Plan around that one fact and the rest is easy.
SIBF 2026 dates, hours and venue
The 45th edition runs for 12 days, 4–15 November 2026, according to the Sharjah International Book Fair website. The Sharjah Book Authority organises it. Oman is the Guest of Honour, and the authority says more than 2,000 publishers from 124 countries are taking part.
| Edition | Dates | Venue | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 44th, 2025 | 5–16 November 2025 | Expo Centre Sharjah | Finished |
| 45th, 2026 | 4–15 November 2026 | Expo Centre Sharjah | Confirmed |
| 46th, 2027 | Expo Centre Sharjah’s calendar lists 2–14 November 2027 | Expo Centre Sharjah | Not yet confirmed by the organiser |
| 47th, 2028 | Not announced yet | Not announced | Usually the first half of November |
Hours. The 2026 daily hours weren’t on the fair’s website when we wrote this. In 2025 the fair opened 10 am to 10 pm Sunday to Wednesday, with different timings later in the week. Check sibf.com before you go, especially if you’re aiming for an evening author session.
The venue. Expo Centre Sharjah is on Al Taawun Street in Al Khan, near Arab Mall. The fair’s site puts it about 25 minutes from Dubai via the E11, and 20 minutes from Sharjah airport.
Why the evening is the hard part
Traffic between Dubai and Sharjah is tidal. In the morning it pours into Dubai; from 4 pm it pours back into Sharjah. A book fair visitor leaving Dubai at 6 pm joins the evening wave.
What we allow from Downtown Dubai to Expo Centre Sharjah on a weekday:
| Time | Dubai to the fair | The fair to Dubai |
|---|---|---|
| 7:00–10:00 am | 30–35 min | 60–90 min |
| 10:00 am – 4:00 pm | 25–30 min | 30–35 min |
| 4:00–8:30 pm | 60–90 min | 30–40 min |
| After 8:30 pm | 25 min | 25–30 min |
So the best visit, if you can choose, is late morning to mid-afternoon: easy in both directions. If you work in Dubai and can only go after work, leave at 8 pm or later; the fair stayed open until 10 pm last year, and the drive drops back to about 25 minutes. The full picture, including Salik and the roads, is in our Dubai to Sharjah guide.
| From | Road distance | Outside rush hour |
|---|---|---|
| DXB airport / Deira | about 10 km | about 15 min |
| Downtown Dubai / Business Bay | about 20–22 km | about 25 min |
| Dubai Marina / JLT | about 39 km | about 40 min |
Getting to the Sharjah International Book Fair: car, taxi, bus or shuttle
| Option | How it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur | Door to the entrance, car waits in the car park, takes your book bags | Pick a time outside 4–8:30 pm from Dubai |
| Dubai taxi | Meter plus a AED 20 charge for trips into Sharjah | Waiting time in queues runs the meter |
| Bus | Expo Centre Sharjah’s own guide lists a direct bus from Stadium Metro Station (Al Ahli Club) in Dubai to Al Taawun bus stop, every 20 minutes | Same traffic as the cars |
| Free fair shuttle | Announced for 2026 by the Sharjah Book Authority | Routes and stops published nearer the opening |
Shuttles and parking. The Sharjah Book Authority said at its 13 October press conference that 2026 brings free shuttle buses and extra parking, as Khaleej Times reported. The routes hadn’t been published when we wrote this. For reference, in 2025 the fair used parking at Al Qasba and Sharjah Aquarium as well as at Expo Centre, with shuttles connecting to Dubai via the Sharjah Aquarium station. That overflow parking suggests the on-site car parks fill on busy days.
Expo Centre Sharjah’s getting-here page also notes the AED 20 charge Dubai taxis add for trips to and from Sharjah.
Drop-off, pickup and the book bags
The organisers don’t publish a private-car drop-off zone. We drop at the main entrance, the chauffeur parks in the Expo Centre car park, and you message when you’re heading out. On a busy evening the car comes to the entrance when you’re ready rather than waiting in the queue to leave.
The car also matters for a reason that’s specific to this fair: books are heavy. A family that buys for a year of reading can’t carry it on a bus. Leave the first load in the boot at a midday break and go back in. Exhibitors moving samples or stock between a hotel and the halls are better off with a van.
School and group visits
Schools can request a reserved visit through a form on the fair’s website, and the organisers then get in touch. For the transport side, we arrange minibuses and coaches with drivers from 12 to 53 seats; see minibus rental in Dubai for the smaller groups. A school coach from Dubai to the fair in the morning travels against the traffic and gets there in half an hour; a 3 pm departure back to Dubai beats the worst of the evening.
Which car to book
| Who | Car | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 visitors | Business sedan (E-Class, Lexus ES) | Easy drop-off, boot for a few bags of books |
| Family with children and buying plans | Large SUV | Third row and a deep boot |
| Authors, publishers, small delegations | Mercedes V-Class | Six or seven seats, room for samples; see our V-Class chauffeur page |
| School trips, staff outings | Minibus or coach with driver | 12–53 seats |
For a single visit, a return transfer is usually enough. If you’re attending several sessions across a day or splitting it between Dubai meetings and the fair, hourly hire (three-hour minimum) keeps one car with you. Our Dubai events calendar has the rest of November’s dates, and the Sharjah Light Festival guide covers Sharjah’s other big event in February.

The Dubai Metro doesn’t go to Sharjah. Expo Centre Sharjah’s guide lists a direct bus from Stadium Metro Station (Al Ahli Club) on the Green Line to Al Taawun bus stop in Sharjah, every 20 minutes. The bus uses the same roads as cars, so avoid the weekday evening peak.
