The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs 3–6 December at Yas Marina Circuit, with the race on Sunday 6 December as the Formula 1 season finale. From Dubai, drive west on Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) to Yas Island, then either park at Yas Mall and take the circuit shuttle or be dropped by chauffeur. Pre-book the return; race-night exits are the bottleneck.
Yas Island sits on the Dubai side of Abu Dhabi, next to the Dubai–Abu Dhabi highway, which makes a daily commute from Dubai realistic. We run limousine service in Abu Dhabi and Dubai–Yas transfers through the Grand Prix weekend. Here’s how we’d plan the four days.
When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026?
The organiser, Abu Dhabi GP, confirms 3–6 December 2026. Formula 1’s own calendar lists the race weekend as 4–6 December; the Thursday before opens with fanzones and an after-race concert, and the track action builds to the race on Sunday.
| Day | Date | What’s on | Transport note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thursday | 3 Dec 2026 | F1 Fanzones at Main Oasis and West Oasis; concert for 3- and 4-day ticket holders | Lighter traffic; good day to learn the route |
| Friday | 4 Dec 2026 | Practice sessions | Commuter traffic on E11 out of Dubai in the morning |
| Saturday | 5 Dec 2026 | Qualifying, after-race concert | Late finish, heavy exit |
| Sunday | 6 Dec 2026 | Race day, season finale, after-race concert | The hardest night to get home |
Session times are published on the official app and site closer to the weekend. The race is a twilight start, so a race-day trip from Dubai usually means an afternoon departure and a late-night return.
GITEX Global starts at Expo City the morning after the race, on 7 December. If you’re doing both, see our GITEX transport guide and our Dubai events calendar.
How do you get from Dubai to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
There are four realistic options. The circuit’s own FAQ lists driving, taxis, ride-hailing and a public bus route from Dubai.
| Option | Route | Time and effort | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur | Hotel to Yas Island on E11, drop at the agreed point, same car home | About 60–90 minutes each way from central Dubai in normal traffic; longer on race night | Families, groups, hospitality guests |
| Self-drive | E11 to Yas Island, park at Yas Mall, shuttle to your grandstand | Same drive plus parking and shuttle time | Confident drivers who won’t drink |
| Public bus | Al Ghubaiba Bus Station (Dubai) to Abu Dhabi Bus Station, then bus 190 to Yas Island | The slowest option by a wide margin | Budget travellers with time |
| Taxi or ride-hailing | App booking from Dubai | Fine going there; hard to find a car coming back | One-way trips |
Drive times vary with where you start. Dubai Marina and JLT are the closest parts of Dubai to Yas Island; Downtown, Business Bay and Deira add time. Our guide to the Dubai to Abu Dhabi distance and travel time breaks it down by area.
Parking, drop-off and pickup at Yas Marina Circuit
For general ticket holders, the organiser’s model is simple: park at Yas Mall and take the shuttle. The official FAQ confirms shuttle buses from Yas Mall, fitted with ramps for wheelchair users, and a mobility-impaired transport service from the West and East Gates.
Around the circuit, shuttles loop between the grandstands. In 2024, Formula 1’s guide to getting to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix listed:
- Circuit Circular Shuttle: every 15 minutes, Thursday to Saturday 9am–1am and Sunday 10:30am–1am, stopping at the South, Marina, West and North Grandstands.
- Yas Courtesy Shuttle: every 15 minutes, Thursday to Saturday 9:30am–1am and Sunday 11am–1am, stopping at the Main, North and West Grandstands.
- Taxi and ride-hailing collection points: near Ferrari World and Yas Mall.
- Extra shuttles for Pit Lane Walk, Paddock Club and Yas Suite ticket holders.
The 2026 shuttle timetable will be on the Abu Dhabi GP app nearer the weekend.
Where a chauffeur drops you and waits
The organiser doesn’t publish a separate private-car drop-off zone for general grandstand tickets. So for most guests we drop at Yas Mall, where the grandstand shuttles start, or at the taxi collection area signed on the day. Your chauffeur then waits in the Yas Mall area rather than circling the island.
Hospitality packages are different. Paddock Club and Yas Suite guests had their own shuttles in 2024, and some packages include parking or vehicle passes. Send us your ticket type and any pass so we can plan the right drop-off point.
How do you get back to Dubai after the race?
This is the part to plan properly. On Saturday and Sunday, the track action ends, the after-race concert starts at Etihad Live (formerly Etihad Park), and the whole circuit starts moving at once.
You have two sensible choices:
- Leave straight after the chequered flag. Walk or shuttle to the pickup point while the concert crowd is still arriving. You’ll be on E11 before the main exit wave.
- Stay for the concert and leave late. Gates to Etihad Live open at 18:00. After the show, give the crowd time to clear, then meet your chauffeur at the agreed point.
What doesn’t work is leaving at the same moment as everyone else and hoping for a taxi. On race night we recommend a pre-booked car with a named pickup point, and we message you the car’s position before you walk out.
Traffic windows to avoid
- Friday morning out of Dubai. Normal commuter traffic to Abu Dhabi overlaps with fans heading to practice.
- The hour after the race on Sunday. Yas Island’s exits carry race and concert traffic at once.
- Late-night E11 back to Dubai. Expect heavy flows towards Dubai until the concert crowds have dispersed.
- Monday 7 December. GITEX opens at Expo City, on the Abu Dhabi side of Dubai. If you have a morning flight or a GITEX badge, plan Sunday night accordingly.
Planning four days of Grand Prix transport from Dubai
- Decide: commute or stay. A daily round trip from Dubai works, especially from Dubai Marina or JLT. A hotel on Yas Island removes the commute altogether.
- Pick the right car. Up to three passengers in a sedan, up to six in a large SUV or V-Class. Our luxury SUV chauffeur service suits families with bags and cool boxes left in the car.
- Book hourly hire for race days. A car that waits for you costs more than a one-way drop, but it removes the worst part of the day: finding a ride home at night.
- Share your grandstand and gate. It tells us where to drop you and which shuttle you’ll use.
- Plan Monday. If you fly out of DXB or head to Expo City on 7 December, we’ll set the Sunday return around it.
