The Spartan World Championship 2026 runs 19–22 November in the Al Wathba desert, Abu Dhabi, with Sprint, Beast, Super, relay and kids’ races across the four days. Spartan puts the course about 30 minutes’ drive from Abu Dhabi city. There’s no published public transport to the dunes, so from Dubai plan a car, an early start and a booked ride back.

A desert course, a race-day start time and a body that’s just done 21 km of obstacles: that’s a trip where the car matters. We run the Dubai to Abu Dhabi chauffeur transfer daily, and race weekends are early mornings and tired passengers. Here’s how we’d plan it.

When is the Spartan World Championship 2026, and which race is which day?

The Spartan Arabia race page lists the 2026 Abu Dhabi Spartan World Championship Weekend for 19–22 November at Al Wathba, Al Wathba South, hosted by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which calls it the sixth Spartan World Championship.

DayDateRaces (per the organiser)
Thursday–Saturday19–21 NovSprint 5K, 20 obstacles
Saturday21 NovBeast 21K, 30 obstacles (qualification-based); Kids Race, 1–3 km
Sunday22 NovSuper 10K, 25 obstacles; 3K Team Relay and the Elite Team Relay Championship

The organiser also mentions a women’s and co-ed Night Sprint, without a date yet. Heat times come in the race-day programme, which hadn’t been published when we wrote this. Your heat time sets your pickup.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office event listing shows the championship at Al Wathba before, organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council. Our Dubai events calendar will carry the 2027 date once it’s out.

Who goes

Mostly racers: elites chasing world titles, age-group athletes who qualified for the Beast, and first-timers on the Sprint. Spectator tickets are sold on the same page, and the organiser promises a festival area with local food, cultural demonstrations and dune buggies. Families come for the Kids Race on the Saturday.

How do you get from Dubai to Al Wathba?

Al Wathba is inland, south-east of Abu Dhabi city near the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain road (E22). You don’t need to drive into the capital. By our route planning, it’s roughly 120 km from Dubai Marina and 140 km from Downtown, so allow about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.

The taxi row is the warning. A ride-hailing car will take you out to the dunes. Getting one to come and collect a muddy racer from Al Wathba at the end of the day is a different matter. Book the return, or keep the car with you.

Leave-by times from Dubai

Work back from the check-in time in your race-day programme. As a rule:

  1. Add 60 minutes before your heat for check-in, kit and a warm-up.
  2. Add 15–20 minutes for the last stretch on desert access roads and the crowd at the site entrance.
  3. Add the drive: about 1 hour 15 minutes from the Marina or JLT, 1 hour 45 minutes from Downtown or Deira.

For an 8am heat, that means leaving Dubai Marina before 5:30am.

Drop-off, waiting and the drive home

The organiser hadn’t published parking, drop-off or shuttle details when we wrote this. Expect them with the race-day documents. Send them to us when you get them.

How we run a race day out in the desert:

  • Drop-off as close to the start area as marshals allow.
  • The chauffeur waits on site with your bag, towels, water and a change of clothes. You won’t want to carry them round the festival.
  • Message when you’re through the finish and out of the wash area. The car comes to the agreed point.
  • Put a towel on the seat. We’d rather you did than worry about the sand.

If you’re racing the Beast on Saturday and the Super on Sunday, consider a night in Abu Dhabi. Two pre-dawn starts from Dubai on back-to-back days is a lot. Our chauffeur service in Abu Dhabi handles the hotel-to-race runs locally.

Same weekend: two other big events

The Abu Dhabi International Boat Show runs at ADNEC on the same four days, 19–22 November; see our boat show transport guide. Back in Dubai, Icons of Porsche is at Nad Al Sheba on 21–22 November. Cars that weekend are busy on both sides of the border, so book when you register.

If you also race HYROX, our HYROX Dubai and Abu Dhabi guide covers the indoor races at ADNEC and Expo City.

The Spartan World Championship 2026 runs Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November 2026 in the Al Wathba desert, Abu Dhabi. The Sprint runs 19–21 November, the Beast and Kids Race on 21 November, and the Super and 3K Team Relay on 22 November, according to the organiser. The 2027 and 2028 dates haven’t been announced.

Where is the Spartan race in Abu Dhabi?

In the Al Wathba desert, at Al Wathba South, which Spartan describes as about a 30-minute drive from Abu Dhabi. It’s inland, south-east of the city near the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain road, so drivers from Dubai don’t need to go into central Abu Dhabi. Check your race documents for the exact site entrance.

How do I get to Al Wathba from Dubai?

By car or chauffeur. It’s roughly 120 km from Dubai Marina and 140 km from Downtown, about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes depending on start point. No public transport to the course has been published, and ride-hailing cars are hard to find for the return, so book your ride back.

Can spectators go to the Spartan World Championship?

Yes. The organiser sells spectator tickets on its race page, and the festival area includes local food, cultural demonstrations and dune buggies. Spectators need transport too: the course is in the desert, so plan the same car or chauffeur as your racer and leave together.

Is there a Spartan race in Dubai?

The 2026 world championship weekend is in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai. Dubai residents race at Al Wathba and drive back the same day or stay over. From Dubai Marina allow about 1 hour 15 minutes each way, and longer from Downtown or Deira.
