The 2026 UN Water Conference runs Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 December 2026 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal. Delegates staying in Dubai face a drive of 75 minutes to 2 hours each way, in the same week as Abu Dhabi Finance Week. Book cars when you book rooms, and plan to leave Dubai by 7:45am.
The host’s own hotel portal offers rates in Dubai as well as Abu Dhabi, so some delegates will be commuting. We run Dubai to Abu Dhabi chauffeur transfers and full-day hire for delegations, NGOs and companies, from one car to a fleet with a coordinator. This guide covers what’s confirmed, what isn’t yet, and how we’d plan the three days.
Where and when is the 2026 UN Water Conference?
The UN’s conference page confirms 8–10 December 2026 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The conference focuses on speeding up progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6, clean water and sanitation, and builds on the 2023 UN Water Conference.
If you saw 2–4 December in earlier coverage, that was the original plan announced by UN-Water in 2024. The dates later moved to 8–10 December, which is what the UN and the host now publish.
| Day | Date | Theme (host country programme) |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Tuesday 8 December | Water for Shared Prosperity |
| Day 2 | Wednesday 9 December | Investments for Lives and Livelihood |
| Day 3 | Thursday 10 December | Resilient Future Together |
The UN’s registration platform lists the conference from 10am on 8 December to 6pm on 10 December, Abu Dhabi time.
2027 and 2028: this is a one-off. There’s no UN Water Conference planned in the UAE for 2027 or 2028.
Blue Zone or The Oasis: who goes where
The conference has two parts, and they’re open to different people:
| Zone | Run by | Who gets in | What’s there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Zone | United Nations | UN-accredited participants: member states, UN system, accredited stakeholders | Plenaries, six interactive dialogues, official side events |
| The Oasis | UAE (host) | Open to all, with registration on the host country site | Exhibitions, pavilions, programming and networking |
Registration has two layers. Under the UN’s attending the conference page, host-country registration is mandatory for every participant, separate from UN accreditation, even if you don’t need a visa. Visas are expected within a week of a complete application. Registration closes on 6 November 2026 for accredited stakeholders and on 13 November for the UN system.
For transport, the zone matters less than the badge. Every passenger should have the host registration and UN accreditation sorted before we plan the cars, because a delegate who can’t get in still has a 90-minute drive back.
Staying in Dubai: what the commute looks like
The host’s accommodation portal lists conference rates across Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 30 November to 20 December 2026. If your delegation ends up in Dubai, this is the daily rhythm we’d plan:
| To be at ADNEC by | Leave Downtown, DIFC or Business Bay | Leave Dubai Marina or JLT |
|---|---|---|
| 8:30am (bilaterals, delegation briefings) | 6:45am | 7:00am |
| 9:30am (ahead of the 10am start on day one) | 7:30am | 7:45am |
| 10:00am | 7:45am | 8:00am |
From Deira or the DXB area, add 10 minutes. Our Dubai to Abu Dhabi distance and travel time guide breaks the drive down by district and hour.
The return is the slow part. Between 4 and 8pm, we allow up to 2 hours from ADNEC back to Downtown Dubai. After an evening reception, from around 8pm, it’s closer to 1 hour 30 minutes. Flying out on Thursday 10 December, the final day? Zayed International Airport is about 15 minutes from ADNEC by ADNEC’s own estimate, which makes AUH the easy exit if your flights allow it.
A crowded week: Abu Dhabi from 3 to 11 December
The conference lands in the busiest stretch of the year on the Dubai–Abu Dhabi road:
| Dates | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Thu 3 – Sun 6 Dec | Abu Dhabi Grand Prix | Yas Marina Circuit |
| Mon 7 – Thu 10 Dec | Abu Dhabi Finance Week | The Grand Steps, Al Maryah Island |
| Tue 8 – Thu 10 Dec | 2026 UN Water Conference | ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi |
| Mon 7 – Fri 11 Dec | GITEX Global | DWTC and Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City (Dubai) |
Two large conferences in Abu Dhabi on the same three days, right after a Grand Prix weekend, while Dubai hosts GITEX. Chauffeur cars are in demand at both ends. We’d confirm delegation cars by mid-November. Our Dubai events calendar shows the rest of December.
Delegation transport: what to settle before 8 December
Send us these, and we can plan the week around them:
- The manifest. Names, protocol order, who travels with whom, hotels and arrival flights (DXB, DWC or AUH).
- The daily programme. Plenary times, side events, bilaterals at hotels, evening receptions. A delegation day at a UN conference rarely runs to plan, so we book full days.
- Car allocation. The head of delegation in a first-class sedan or SUV, advisers in SUVs or a six-seat V-Class, and larger NGO or company groups in a minibus or coach through our bus rental in Abu Dhabi service.
- One point of contact each side. Your protocol officer and our dispatcher, with the chauffeurs’ numbers shared on day one.
- Security. We provide cars and RTA-licensed chauffeurs, not close protection. If your delegation has its own security team, we follow its timings and routes.
Our guide to delegation and VIP visitor transport covers airport arrivals and protocol planning in more detail.
Access at ADNEC: what’s known so far
When we checked on 17 October, neither the UN nor the host had published parking, drop-off or vehicle access arrangements for ADNEC. The host’s “Getting here” guide promises information on transfers, shuttles and getting to ADNEC; we’ll follow it when it’s out.
For a sense of what to expect, look at ADNEC’s other high-security show. At IDEX, on-site car parks are allocated by coloured sticker, and everyone else is dropped at set points or uses park-and-ride (our IDEX transport guide has the detail). The UN conference may follow a different plan, so don’t book self-drive parking on that assumption. A chauffeured car adapts to whichever drop-off point the host assigns.
Darb tolls, and how to book the days
Each leg between Dubai and ADNEC passes the Darb gate at Ghantoot on the E11, which charges AED 4 at any hour, and a Darb bridge gate onto Abu Dhabi island, which charges AED 4 between 7 and 9am and between 3 and 7pm, Monday to Saturday. A conference commute hits both peaks. In our cars, Darb and Salik are inside the fixed Dubai–Abu Dhabi price, and the Darb registration for Dubai-plated cars is our paperwork.
For a delegate in the plenary hall from 10am to 6pm, a return with waiting each day is enough. For anyone with bilaterals, receptions or a hotel move in the middle of the week, book full days from Dubai, or move to Abu Dhabi and use our chauffeur service in Abu Dhabi by the hour. A day with a 7am pickup and an 8pm reception runs past the usual 10-hour full day, so tell us the real hours and we’ll price it as one job.
