The World Governments Summit 2027 runs 1–3 February 2027 in Dubai. The venue hasn’t been named yet. In 2026 the summit was at Madinat Jumeirah, where only cars with a WGS access sticker could drive in between 7am and 6pm; everyone else parked at the Dubai Police Academy and rode a free shuttle. Build your delegation’s car plan around that rule.
WGS is the most protocol-heavy week on our winter board. We plan conference transport in Dubai for delegations every season, and this summit isn’t a trade show: fewer people, far more seniority, and road access controlled by the authorities.
When and where is the World Governments Summit 2027?
The World Governments Summit’s 2027 page lists 1–3 February 2027 in Dubai, and the Dubai Media Office announcement confirms the same dates. Neither names a venue, so treat Madinat Jumeirah as the most recent host, not a confirmed one.
| Edition | Dates | Venue | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| WGS 2025 | 11–13 February 2025 | Dubai | Held |
| WGS 2026 | 3–5 February 2026 | Madinat Jumeirah | Held |
| WGS 2027 | 1–3 February 2027 (Monday to Wednesday) | Dubai; venue not announced yet | Dates confirmed by the organiser |
| WGS 2028 | Not announced yet | Not announced | Usually early to mid February |
The scale explains the traffic. The organiser counted more than 6,250 participants at the 2026 edition, including over 60 heads of state and government and their deputies, more than 500 ministers and more than 80 international and regional organisations. We’ll update this page when the 2027 venue is published.
Who attends the World Governments Summit?
Governments, mostly. Heads of state and ministers, heads of international organisations, senior officials, and a smaller group of private-sector leaders and speakers. It isn’t a public expo with a ticket desk, so your access (and your car’s access) comes through your WGS registration or accreditation.
For transport, that means two kinds of passenger in the same delegation. The principal moves on a protocol timetable that can change in minutes. The advisers, speech writers and media team move on the published agenda and need to arrive before the principal does. One car can’t serve both.
How car access to Madinat Jumeirah worked in 2026
RTA’s 2026 travel advisory, as reported by Gulf News, restricted the Madinat Jumeirah area from 1 to 5 February, 7am to 6pm, to cars displaying a valid World Governments Summit access sticker. Cars without one were turned away and sent to designated parking at the Dubai Police Academy, with free shuttles to the summit through the day. Free shuttles also ran from Mall of the Emirates metro station, the nearest station to the venue.
| How you arrive | What happened in 2026 | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Chauffeured car with a WGS sticker | Drives into the restricted zone and drops at the venue | Principals, ministers, speakers |
| Chauffeured car without a sticker | Turned away at the cordon; park at the Police Academy and take the shuttle | Staff, if they’ve allowed time for the shuttle |
| Dubai Metro | Red Line to Mall of the Emirates, then the free shuttle | Solo delegates near the Red Line |
Taxis and ride-hailing cars face the same cordon. We can’t get a sticker for you, and a chauffeur can’t talk his way through a security cordon. Ask your WGS contact early which of your cars qualify and get each sticker onto the right windscreen before the first morning. A car without one means planning that passenger’s day around the shuttle.
Restrictions ran from 7am to 6pm in 2026. Evening dinners and receptions after 6pm, at Madinat or elsewhere in the city, follow normal hotel access, so the same car can do the night programme without the sticker question.
Planning cars for a ministerial delegation
Start from roles, not headcount. This is the car plan we’d propose for a typical ministerial delegation, adjusted to your manifest:
| Role | Car | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Head of delegation | Mercedes S-Class with chauffeur or BMW 7 Series | Rear-seat space for calls between sessions, and the car protocol teams expect |
| Minister or senior adviser | First-class or business sedan | Moves independently of the principal |
| Advisers and media team, up to six | Mercedes V-Class | Everyone arrives together, with room for camera kit |
| Gifts, documents, luggage | Van | Keeps the principal’s car clear |
| Spare | One extra car on standby | Covers the schedule change that always comes |
For matching convoys, ask for the same model and colour across the principal’s and staff cars. We’ll confirm what’s available when you send the manifest.
Then the order of work:
- Send the manifest two weeks out. Names as on passports, titles, flights, hotels and who rides with whom. Our delegation and VIP visitor checklist covers the full version.
- Map stickers to cars. If you have three stickers and five cars, decide now which three cars carry them.
- Pick the hotel for the venue. If WGS stays at Madinat Jumeirah, the resort’s own hotels (Jumeirah Al Qasr, Mina A’Salam, Dar Al Masyaf and Al Naseem) remove most of the morning drive. Burj Al Arab next door is closed for restoration, with reopening reported for October 2027, so don’t book it for February.
- Agree the evening plan. Bilateral dinners, embassy receptions and late flights usually fill the nights. Hourly hire (minimum 3 hours) keeps the car with the principal through all of it.
- Name one person who can change the plan. Usually the chief of staff. Our dispatch team takes changes from that person only.
A note on what we don’t do. We supply RTA-licensed cars and chauffeurs. We don’t provide close protection or armed security, and police escorts and motorcade routing sit with the host’s protocol and police teams. If your principal travels with a security detail, their lead sets the movement plan and our chauffeurs follow it. Our corporate chauffeur service runs delegation accounts on monthly invoicing with VAT invoices.
Published Dubai rate cards (September 2026) put an S-Class full day at AED 1,400–2,500; our all-inclusive price covers chauffeur, fuel, Salik, parking and VAT.
Roads and times to avoid in summit week
On the 2026 opening morning, Gulf News reported intermittent diversions near the venue, with Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) and Al Khail Road (E44) affected and heavy backlogs on Umm Suqeim Street and Hessa Street. By the final day, authorities were pointing drivers to the Metro or Al Khail Road to avoid the worst of it.
Our approach for the summit days:
- Run the morning drop before 7am or well after it. The cordon starts at 7am. Staff without stickers should be on the shuttle early so they’re in the hall before their principal arrives.
- Keep airport runs off opening morning. DXB to Madinat Jumeirah is about 27 km, normally 25 to 45 minutes. On a summit morning, allow more, and land the principal the day before if the schedule allows.
- Expect closures at short notice. When a head of state moves, the road stops for a few minutes. A chauffeur who knows the side routes through Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim saves more time than any app.
- Watch the week before. World Health Expo runs 25–28 January 2027 at Dubai Exhibition Centre and DWTC, so some delegations arrive into an already busy city. Our Dubai events calendar shows the whole season.
Madinat Jumeirah also hosts TOKEN2049 in April 2027; our TOKEN2049 Dubai transport guide covers the venue on a normal, non-cordoned event day.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the World Government Summit held?
In Dubai. The 2026 edition was at Madinat Jumeirah, on the Jumeirah coast next to Burj Al Arab, and the organiser lists the 2027 edition in Dubai without naming a venue yet. Check the official WGS site before you book hotels, because the venue decides your transport plan.
When is the World Governments Summit 2027?
1–3 February 2027, Monday to Wednesday, in Dubai. The organiser and the Dubai Media Office both announced the dates in February 2026, right after the 2026 edition closed. The 2028 dates haven’t been announced; recent editions have run in early to mid February.
Who attends the World Government Summit?
Heads of state and government, ministers, heads of international organisations, senior officials and invited private-sector leaders. At the 2026 edition the organiser counted more than 6,250 participants, including over 60 heads of state and government and their deputies and more than 500 ministers.
Can you drive to Madinat Jumeirah during the World Governments Summit?
Not without a sticker during restricted hours. In 2026, RTA limited the Madinat Jumeirah area to cars with a valid WGS access sticker from 7am to 6pm, 1–5 February. Other drivers parked at the Dubai Police Academy and took a free shuttle. Confirm the 2027 arrangements with the organiser before the first day.
What is the nearest metro station to the World Governments Summit?
For the 2026 edition at Madinat Jumeirah, RTA named Mall of the Emirates on the Red Line as the nearest station, with free shuttles to the venue. If the 2027 venue changes, the station will too, so check RTA’s summit advisory in the week before.
